I’ve always been into gadgets, ever since I could remember. If I were to have it my way, every item inside my home would be some sort gadget, even the couch. Not sure how, but I’d want it. My ideal home decorators would be Q from James Bond and Lucius Fox from Batman.

Therefore, imagine my luck to be born in an era where technology is booming and every day there is an opportunity for me to find out about some new gadget and even test one out. The best part about it is that it never ceases to surprise me. Just when I think there is no area where modern technology can be implemented in a way that is has a useful purpose, a gadget or piece of hardware pops up to prove me wrong.

Home Exercise Tech

My latest surprise was to find that hi-tech has found its way to home workout machines. Of course, there is no machine that will help you buff up within minutes by using an app or clicking a button and you still have to do all the heavy lifting yourself, no pun intended, but with modern technology your workout can be more efficient, which means you will spend a little less time working out and achieve better results in the process.

I came across a website called Elliptical Machine Advice – you guessed it, all about elliptical home exercise machines! I had heard of elliptical trainers but never really paid them any attention. The website had detailed reviews and guides on all aspects of buying and using elliptical machines – very enlightening. After doing some additional research, I became well-informed about how ellipticals use technology to help you stay in shape.

I’m not much of a workout buff, but it’s the application that interests me. Most elliptical trainers nowadays have a central console unit which gathers various workout information and processes it. The data is then fed onto the LCD panel which informs the user about the numerous parameters of the workout. The console also allows you to choose from a large number of pre-set workout routines, which are designed based on the needs of the user.

Of course, the user is able to customize these parameters however they please. But, that’s not the only application of modern technology in elliptical trainers. The machine is also able to measure your heart rate, via heart rate monitors which are built into the handlebars of the trainer. Why is this so important?

Well, the essence of every cardio workout is to burn fat, but what most people don’t know is that this only happens at a certain heart rate, which is unique for every person based on parameters like age, weight, body mass index and so on.  So, your aim is to get spend as much time as you can in the fat-burning zone, and an elliptical trainer helps you achieve that.

This is just one example of how modern technology can help you save time and make whatever you are doing more streamlined and efficient. Because after all, technology is there to help us, not the other way around. The exciting bit is the fact that this is only the beginning, as there will surely be more innovations to come, and I for one can’t wait to see it happen. How about you?
